James Hayton, PhD
Providing tips and training for PhD students since 2010, abandoning conventional wisdom in search of effective solutions.
I believe that stress and pain are not necessary in order to succeed, and that too many people suffer through their PhD. If stress is considered a normal part of a PhD, then perhaps the conventional or most common approaches are flawed.

I completed my PhD in physics at the University of Nottingham in 2007.
After three-and-a-half difficult years of research, during which I suffered from severe procrastination and self-doubt, I managed to turn things around, get the results I needed and write my entire thesis in just three months.
Not only did I write fast, but I also enjoyed the process and wrote a high-quality thesis (to my surprise, I passed the viva examination with zero corrections).
I went on to do 2 postdoc research contracts, and for the last three years have been working with students around the world to help make their PhD process easier.
